Buying an acoustic guitar can be a daunting prospect. Playability, tone and build quality must all be taken into consideration but (particularly with the relatively modest budget of £300) all too often a rushed, and ultimately wrong purchase is made. Until now…

This, the second guitar instalment of the Ask MusicRadar series, is a gallery of the top 10 acoustic guitars as voted for by you - the music-making, guitar-buying public.

Just like acoustic guitars, your nominations were personal and, of course, varied. But we do have a winner. So sit back, grab a pick and scroll through the 10 best acoustics under £300, all of which are well worthy of your consideration. First up: a Vintage favourite - the V1300...

Why you love it:

“Vintage should always be counted in any budget category – I think you can pick up a V1300 acoustic for around £300 which was one of my first guitars and very sweet sounding.” (Thanks, comedy_dave)

Aria AW75
Ask MusicRadar: the results

If you're looking for something a little bit different, Aria has always been a brand worth considering.

Why you love it:

“Aria AW75-QN. Solid top, laminated sides & back, lovely neck, good to strum or pick. Big dreadnought sounds, only about £150. What a belter. Only one strap button though - but hey for a couple of quid I put one on. I use it with a Seymour Duncan Woodie pickup if I need to amplify it. Geoff.” (Thanks, geoff999)

Although the "anything by Crafter" nomination does lack precision, we kind of agree. We've opted for the D-6.

Why you love it:

“Anything by Crafter. Superb instruments for the money!” (Thanks, urbanpagan)

Like or loath the electric-style headstock, it wouldn't be a proper list of guitars without Fender.

Lag Summer Series GLA200DCE
Ask MusicRadar: the results

Several different Lag acoustics were nominated, making the French company one of the most popular choices. We've opted for a Summer Series model.

Why you love it:

“After playing several Yamahas, Takamines and Adam Blacks all around the same price range I plumped for a LAG GLA4S100BCE which is just a beautiful guitar (from their 'Spring' range). Cost me £230 and the sound is just fantastic and the pre-amp has 5 neat settings on it. Love it to bits.” (Thanks, Chinster)

“I have a LAG Spring Series I got for 160 pounds, great value, and great for fingerstyle and strumming. All LAGs at this price point are amazing.” (Thanks, frankieMART)

“The Lag summer series acoustic guitar is a stunner - LOVE IT! Good price , solid top with a wicked chiming tone which you will be entranced by.” (Thanks, dan900)

Taylor Big Baby
Ask MusicRadar: the results

MusicRadar’s verdict

“Smart economy of construction and finishing, encouraging playability and genuinely enthusiastic tone. It's hard to keep up with Taylor's cauldron of steaming ideas, but someone's got to lead the way forward, and it seems we're in reliable hands.” (Read the full Taylor Big Baby review)

Why you love it:

“Taylor Big Baby.” (Thanks, thebeagle)

“I am no expert but, I have tried a few of the cheaper guitars and only three impressed me... Yamaha F310 [and] Taylor Big Baby.” (Thanks, Skodster, even if you did forget to mention the third!)

Yamaha FG730S
Ask MusicRadar: the results

The top pick had to be one of Yamaha's much-loved FG Series. Ask any guitarist and they'll probably recommend one: failsafe and well worthy of its gold medal.

MusicRadar’s verdict:

“Classic cosmetics. No shortage of top end if you want it - the FG730S’s acoustics tick all of the required boxes with aplomb.” (Read the full Yamaha FG730S review)

Why you love it:

“Yamaha FG730S. Like everything they build Yamaha manage to combine quality workmanship, great tone and real value for money in this model. I own a handbuilt Yamaha LL26 but I would be more than happy to gig with the part-laminate FG; it really is a fine guitar.” (Thanks, andrewrg)

“Could do a lot worse than a Yamaha FG like this.” (Thanks, thelynxeffect)

“Plus one for the Yamaha FG - most of the FGs I played are fantastic for the money.” (Thanks, weddingsinger)
