Some of the world's most acclaimed Fender Jazzmaster users performed at a 50th Anniversary Concert for the famous axe in New York last Friday. (Pictured above L to R): Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth); Jimmy Rip (Television); Tom Verlaine (Television); Nels Cline (Wilco); J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.); Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth).
Fender introduced the Jazzmaster in 1958 as a high-end alternative to the Telecaster and Stratocaster. It became an unexpected hit with youthful players who were blazing new trails in surf and garage pop music. More than a decade later, the Jazzmaster was rediscovered be new generations of edgy new guitarists who loved its great looks, versatile sound and subversive cool.
