Musikmesse 08: RME unveils first portable MADI audio system
11th Mar 2008 | 15:11
MADIface delivers 128 channels of 192kHz audio
It’s not going to appeal to those who simply require a couple of analogue inputs and outputs in their recording setup, but RME’s new MADIface certainly looks like an impressive technical achievement.
This is billed as the first portable solution to support the high-end MADI standard (Multichannel Audio Digital Interface), and supports – get this – 128 channels of audio at up to 192kHz.
The new Mac- and PC-compatible system comprises the ExpressCard MADI and the MADIface breakout box. This combination provides 64 input and 64 output channels. Power for the breakout box comes courtesy of the ExpressCard, so no external supply is required.
MADIface is undoubtedly a high-end audio system that’s designed for professional use, but if you feel like it’s for you, you can read the full specs on the RME website.
