FIRST LOOK: Novation Nocturn

It was one of the buzziest products of the 2008 Winter NAMM show, and Computer Music magazine has an exclusive hands-on test

Typical: you wait months for a groundbreaking new control surface to turn up, then the Novation Nocturn and Euphonix MC Mix arrive on the same day.

Computer Music magazine has an exclusive first hands-on test of the Nocturn, and it's fair to say that its initial impressions are favourable. Despite the device's compact design, the controls (nine rotaries, a crossfader and 16 buttons) don't seem to feel cramped, and getting up and running is said to be quick and easy.

It's suggested that the lack of a built-in display doesn't cause too many problems, either, with Nocturn's transparent on-screen interface reportedly working well.

For the full story and hi-res pictures, check out the Computer Music blog. There'll be a detailed review in issue 124, on sale March 12, and on MusicRadar in due course.

The Nocturn will be on sale soon priced at £69. Full spec details are available on the Novation website.
