Remixes are funny things. Some seem to exist only to act as filler on single releases, while others end up becoming more famous than the songs they're derived from.

As part of its comprehensive guide to remixing in this month's issue, Future Music magazine recently asked a host of artists to name their favourite remixes ever, and they came up with some gems.

That said, there are some notable omissions – if you think there are greater remixes out there, let us know about them in the comments section. Who knows: we may end up with enough for another list.

For now, though, here are the stars' choices…

Funkagenda

"Chicane's Jazz Mix of Furry Phreaks' Soothe."

Jimmy Valance

"Sasha's remix of Ulrich Schnauss's On My Own"

Alex Gaudino

"Armand Van Helden's remix of Tori Amos's Professional Widow."

Tocadisco

"Tiga's remix of Tomas Andersson's Washing Up."

Martin Solveig

"Probably Soulwax's remix of Klaxons' Gravity's Rainbow."

Jori Hulkonnen

"Pet Shop Boys' So Hard - The KLF remix. It would've been easy to build around the vocal, but it was around the bass."

Alex Gaudino

"Todd Terry's mix of Everything But The Girl's Missing."

Grum

"The Thin White Duke remix of Felix Da Housecat's Silver Screen Shower Scene."

Sharam Jey

"Boys Noize's fantastic remix of Feist's My Moon My Man. That was a really huge one. I loved it."

Joey Negro

"Patrick Cowley's 14-minute epic mix of Donna Summer's I Feel Love."

Robbie Riviera

"I love my remix of Basement Jaxx's Do Your Thing. It came out so good that the band use my mix for all their live performances, which really is a great honour."

Lifelike

"Shep Pettibone's mix of New Order's True Faith. It symbolises the entire decade in just a couple of minutes."

Kris Menace

"D.Ramirez's mix of Yeah Yeah for Bodyrox."

Stonebridge

"I remember the Teddy Riley mix of SWV's Right There with a Michael Jackson sample. That was just… ahhhhh."
