Kanye West wins best hip-hop artist at BET awards

Lil’ Wayne, UGK, Chris Brown and Alicia Keys also win big

Kanye West won twice at this year's annual Black Entertainment Awards (BET), scooping best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration for Good Life featuring T-Pain. Hip-hop act UGK (aka Underground Kingz) also took home two awards – best group and video of the year for International Player's Anthem featuring Outkast.

Never one to hide behind modesty, Kanye had this to say when picking up his second gong: "I am one of the kings in this game right now and my opinion counts – that's why I did a song with T-Pain".

Other victors include Alicia Keys and Chris Brown for best female and male R&B artist respectively, Missy Elliot for best female hip-hop artist and The Dream for best newcomer. Lil' Wayne picked up the public vote with the viewers' choice award and Al Green was honoured with a lifetime achievement.
