Did Dido play every instrument on new album?

Producer Jon Brion and Dido talk Safe Trip Home

Dido's recent MP3 giveaway of Look No Further ended a long wait for new material. It also marked the announcement of new album Safe Trip Home, which is due for release on 3 November. Now, the Dido camp are keeping the record's promotion ticking over by posting a series of videos of Dido and producer Jon Brion in the studio.

The first video, posted today, hints at Dido playing almost every instrument on the recording. Jon Brion gushed about the singer's contribution: "She spent time learning about the specifics of record making".

"She's taken time out to learn to play drums, really work on her piano and guitar playing, learn about engineering, mastering – every aspect of her job. She's taken time adding technique to what she already inherently has".

Dido also gives fans a clue as to why the follow-up to 2003's Life For Rent has taken so long: "If I haven't got something that I'm burning to write about – you know – I don't want to make a record for the sake of it. I want to make a record when I've got something to say on a record".

Safe Trip Home

Safe Trip Home also features collaborations with Mick Fleetwood and Brian Eno. In that case, we're sure Dido let Mick Fleetwood do his own drum parts – she can't be that good?

Fans will be pleased to know that the snippets of new material playing in the video sound a lot like old Dido material. Mind you, after selling 11 billion copies of her two previous records, she's not likely to change the formula…
